Delivery agents of goods and services to be revisited

THE Government will be revisiting the usefulness of a number of delivery agents of specialized goods and services.

This includes the revival of the Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBS), Solomon Islands Commodities Export Marketing Authority (CEMA) and Investment Corporation Solomon Islands (ICSI).

The Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare disclosed this in his Sine Die speech in Parliament last week.

Sogavare disclosed that the Government is actively pursuing this through the various Sub-Committees of Cabinet that were established to look at the specific policy intentions of the Government as far as these organisations are concerned.

“We noted the comment raised that reports are not coming for Parliament to see.

“Of course, the Committee is set up by Cabinet so they report to Cabinet.

“But we will have no problem considering the proposition of laying before Parliament some of the reports produced by the various sub-taskforces of Cabinet,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister then added that the Government is also working on reviving the dormant national sectoral projects like the Russell Island Plantation Estate Limited (RIPEL) and Gold Ridge.

“I am very happy to say that Gold Ridge will be back in operation.

“A Mining license has been issued and thanks to the Member of Parliament for East Guadalcanal who is taking the active role in efforts to ensure the Gold Ridge Mine is back in operation – Gold Ridge Mine is definitely coming back into operation,” the Prime Minister affirmed.

Sogavare then added that RIPEL is one issue the Government is still working on.
