Country loses great leader

A funeral service was held yesterday at St Barnabas Cathedral to celebrate the life of the late Chief Dennis Carlos Lulei.

Family members, relatives, government officials, members from the constitution reform congress, chiefs, IDC staff and those who knew Mr Lulei attended the service to pay their last respects.

Mr Lulei hails from a chiefly and Christian family.

As the Paramount Chief of House of Chiefs in Isabel, Mr Lulei had also taken up a good number posts both in provincial government and national government.

He was a teacher, principal, soccer coach and referee during his days at National King George Secondary School from late 1970s to 1980s.

In 1979 Mr Lulei was the team manager for the local soccer team that participated in the South Pacific Games which won against UPNG to qualify into the quarter finals.

In 1987 he became the director of IDC and in 2001 he was the chairman of IDC (Isabel Development Company).

He was also the first Member of Parliament from Isabel province to hold the position of DPM (Deputy Prime Minister).

Mr Lulei was a man of principles and spoke on what he believed in.

His latest position was General board and management director of I.D.C.

He is married to Hazel who hails from Marovo, Western Province and leaves behind four children and 12 grandchildren.
