Container of medical supplies bound for the NRH
DEAR EDITOR, a 20-foot container of pre-approved medical equipment and medical supplies will be shipped from Port Lyttleton in New Zealand on May 19 bound for Honiara and the NRH.
The NZ Charity Trust, ‘Take My Hand’, signed a MOU with the SI MHMS for the supply of up to 10 such containers per year and the contents of each of the 20-foot containers are matched with the specific needs of the NRH.
In the past 12 to 24 months, the NRH has received hundreds of beds, mattresses, mobility aids, items of hospital furniture and medical supplies generally used on a daily basis.
In the last shipment, 3,000 pairs of spectacles were supplied to the Honiara Referral Eye Hospital after a request was met by Lions Clubs in New Zealand.
A container in respect of meeting the needs of various local NGO’s is yet to be freighted because some of the donated and collated items, such as second hand clothing intended for the Hearts of Hope (HOH) Charity, had to be diverted to help in disaster areas following earthquakes and flooding following Cyclones.
TMH has existing MOU’s in place with Nepal, Pakistan and Fiji.
We are loading into the shipping container using the approved inventory list next Monday and Tuesday. It will be at the port in Lyttleton by May 19 and leave around May 24 on its journey.
Estimated arrival time in Honiara is mid July.
