Conman alert

Public warned of conman with fake birth certificates

PUBLIC is being warned of a man selling forged birth certificates who claims to be a Ministry of Home Affairs Officer (MHA).

The MHA’s Civil Registration Division found out recently of this person’s activities and have come out to warn the public of him.

They revealed that a conman who goes by the aliases Paul Didi or Fred Didi has sold birth certificates which are not from the Ministry nor permitted by them.

Civil Registration office also urges people to stay away from buying any certificate in public premises especially students, parents and employers – “those are fake ones”.

Mr Didi is known by some familiar with his persona as a genius conman, attracting people with his price, saying he can do things faster with his deals with the Ministry.

Several people have been victimised already, and he is reported to have been doing his affairs for quite some time.

It was only noticed in November last year by the Ministry of Home Affairs, setting them on the trail of investigation.

Civil Division was informed when a teacher named Fred Ale followed up his son’s birth certificate.

The Division found the certificate copy to be fake and has since been tracking Mr Didi.

Registrar for MHA, Mr Roderick Kidoe directs the public to contact his office if they find themselves to be in possession of any fake certificate.

Meanwhile, Mr Kidoe said it is an offence which is stated under Birth and Death (Registration) Act [CA168] article 14 and 15.

“A person who, when making a report under this act include in the report a particular which he knows to be false is guilty of an offence.”

Article 15, “A person who fraudulently alters any particularly contained.”

He said soon they will hand over the case to police for further investigation because this is a serious offence.

Mr Kidoe said their concern is such activity will affect students travelling overseas, and job seekers.

He encourages everyone to go through the right channel which is the Civil Registration Division.
