Cometh the hour, cometh the man
DEAR EDITOR, It is believed that an unknown person combined the verse in John 4:23 which says, “But the hour cometh, and now is,” and the English proverb, “opportunity makes the man,” to come up with “cometh the hour, cometh the man.”
Whoever combined the verse from John 4:23 “cometh the hour,” next week, when the raft of anti-corruption bills will be debated in the National Parliament, the hour will have come and it is to be expected that we will see the fulfillment of the proverbs “opportunity makes the man,” and “cometh the hour, cometh the man.”
To also quote from Lord Nelson, “England expects everyman to do his duty.” In our case, however, the quotation could appropriately read, “Solomon Islands expects every MP to do his duty.”
If the blight of corruption that has beset the Solomon Islands in all walks of life for so many years is to be effectively tackled and corruption and corrupt practices brought to book, then it is quite obvious than the anti-corruption legislation must be debated and passed and the nettle grasped by a committed, supportive and undivided parliament.
It is my wish therefore, “Speak what you seek until you see what you’ve said.” (Anon)
