Case against ANZ ATM theft adjourned
CASE against two men alleged of stealing the ANZ Automatic Teller Machine at the Kwaimani building is adjourned for January 23.
The appearance yesterday was an interim mention as their trial date was set for February to March next year.
The men; Dilo Faiga and Saverio Sulimae were jointly charged with one count each armed robbery in relation to the allegation on 11pm, July 25, 2014.
Police alleged they uprooted the ATM machine at the Kwaimani building using crow bars and then lifted it into the waiting car and drove off to Henderson, where they allegedly broke open the machine.
Police further alleged that more than $400,000 was in that machine but they allegedly took only more than $200,000 from the top tray as they couldn’t open the bottom tray.
According to the police, they said that the men arrived at the building and threatened the security guards by gun pointing them and uprooted the machine.
After successfully uprooting the machine they dragged it to the waiting car and drove off to Henderson where they allegedly opened and stole the money on the top tray.
Police also alleged that the security guard who followed them that night also received $30,000, and that money has not yet been recovered.
Police Prosecution, when remanding the cab driver, also told the court that they have retrieved $50,721 from Sulimae’s wife that was believed to be proceeds of the ATM robbery.
Police already has in their care the car they used during the incident and also the car believed to have been bought by the stolen money.
