Arafoa sworn for another term with PSC

THE Governor General, His Excellency Sir Frank Ofagioro Kabui has sworn in Mr Allan Billy Arafoa on Thursday 11th May 2017, for another three- year term as a member of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Government House.

Members of the Public Service Commission are appointed by the Governor General in accordance with section 115 of the Constitution.

Mr Arafoa’s second term was effective from May 9th 2017.

Members of the PSC are only called for service when the PSC meets. Only the Chair serves on full-time basis. The same applies to other Government commissions.

Mr Arafoa is the Chief Executive Officer of the Solomon Islands Postal Corporation. Prior to his current job, Mr Arafoa served in various positions in the Public Service, including the post of Permanent Secretary.

Other members of the PSC are Mr Eliam Tanirongo (Chairman), Mr Tione Bugotu, and Mrs Nanette Tutua.

The PSC is vested with powers under Section 116 of the Solomon Islands Constitution to make and confirm appointments to public offices, remove and discipline persons holding and acting in such offices and may, subject to such conditions as it deems fit, delegate any of its powers under this section by directions in writing to any member of the commission or to any public officer.
